HIF: Heavy Ion irradiation facility
Installation build to measure the response of electronic components to single event effects.
Two heavy ions “cocktails” covering a wide range of LET and ranges, allowing to fully characterize SEE response of electronic components.

Both cocktails have close M/Q (~5 for the high LET and ~ 3.3 for the high penetration), allowing a fast ion changing within the same cocktail just modifying slightly the magnetic field and/or the RF. The beam flux is variable between a few particles/s.cm² and 1·104particles/s.cm². The beam flux can be modified from the user station; this is done with injection grids (for a constant attenuation factor) or by inflector bias variations (for intermediates values). The Homogeneity is ± 10 % on a 25 mm diameter. All irradiations are done in vacuum and for most of the ions naked chips are needed.
Please contact the beam line responsible person to obtain a detailed description of the mechanical constraints and the available feed-through.
Reimbursement Information
The claim form must be filled in and returned.
Travel costs for two people and hotel costs for one or two nights may be covered by AIDA-2020 for each project approved as well as the cost of shipping samples.
